Security at Christmas

Protect C.S.M would like to offer some simple crime prevention advice for keeping your home safe this Christmas and make sure Santa is the only person sneaking into your house.

As Christmas approaches, homes will be filling up with gifts and gadgets. Many people will be visiting family and friends and are less likely to be in. Just as much as you are looking forward to giving and receiving gifts, burglars are looking for easy opportunities to steal them from you.

Generally, there is an increase in burglaries in December and leading into January, which is down to homes being filled with expensive goods, homes being empty and businesses closed.

Here are some top tips for keeping your home safe this Christmas.

  • Don’t leave gifts on display in your home or car.

  • Make sure you keep your doors and windows locked at all times.

  • Keys should always be kept out of sight and not left in doors or in view of windows.

  • Modern vehicle keys should be kept in a faraday box or pouch to prevent keyless entry theft.

  • Make your house look like someone is home, use a timer switch or smart plug to operate lamps or lights as it starts to get dark.

  • If you have a Burglar Alarm make sure this is set when away from your property and when you go to bed.

  • Don't advertise your gifts on social media, by posting your gifts on social media you might unknowingly be making yourself a target especially if your account is open to the public.

  • Dispose of labelled boxes which give away any new items inside the house carefully.
